Following various surveys and assessments, it was established that the existing facilities for the Central Glider Squadron based at RAF Syerston were no longer fit for purpose and had exceeded their practical design life.
As a result, a business case was put together by the Ministry of Defence to undertake a project for the demolition of existing facilities and re-provision of squadron accommodation to enable the unit to continue operation.
Templeman Design were appointed to develop the design brief that consider the needs of the squadron without compromising the sites architectural language, heritage and clients financial constraints. The scheme provided multiple facilities, infrastructure upgrades and enhanced security measures. The new facilities consisted of an aircraft hangar, vehicle garage/storage facility, maintenance workshop/ancillary accommodation and an administration/training facility.Templeman Design were appointed to transpose the client need into a workable scheme, obtain all statutory permissions, development of the multi-disciplinary design for construction and design services during construction.
